I think the challenge was a huge success. Lets start with last night, though. The drunkies were out last night fo sho. First, Humphrey told us about "the Howler" from last year, which obviously scared Sam and I to death. Then we finally settled in to the shantymansion for a crazy night. Some really funny guys pondered tagging the SM, while others decided that if they were living on $2 a day, they would want some mozerella sticks- they in turn, left a little prize for us in the morning. Around 4, Hart had an attack. I guess he had a bad dream b/c he was freaking out. He was mumbling something or another and knocked his back door box out so he could catch his breath- then he put his box back and went back to sleep. I woke up about an hour later and had to run to Monroe to pee-bummer. Sam and I woke up around 7:30 and rolled up the sleeping bags, tarps, and grabbed the pillows (and of course all of my new Foreign Affairs collection). We got some cereal and i made Sam some eggs. By the time we left for our Team Honduras meeting, it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO hot outside already. I really started feeling unshowered at that point. The day continued to slow down.
I got some coffee from the table in the econ/ia suite but unfortunately put too much sweet and low in it, so I took one sip- one sip too many. Sam and I got a drink from our nest cup and waited for class to start. Justin Simione came to show us the trailer to the SHH documentary (which we already watched in econ) and told us some little anicdotes. Btw, i was soooo cranky today from lack of sleep all week. In the middle of class, we got some of the best news EVER/ we didn't have to go to our meeting for the presentation on Sunday. So I finally went home. I had THE BEST shower ever. Definately took two tries to wash my hair all the way.
In conclusion: Sam and I could have done this on no dollars a day. Free stuff is everywhere. Obviously, this experiment is pretty far from reality in Honduras, however, I would like to point out that people in poverty take free delicious hand outs when they can, so we do too. We live in a country where access to technology and wealth is inherant. I raised around $150, so all in all it was successful. I know we may not have met our goal of $5000, but we can help at least a few lives with what we were able to muster up. We tried.

Is this freakin over yet?
Eww, my hair is getting super nasty. I was so tired when I got up this morning. We opted not to go to hyperion b/c we knew that there would be free starbucks in class. So, we came back to the slums and had some frosted flakes. No visible panda action. So econ was rough this morning, but geopol was canceled so I got to go home and FINALLY see my Wynn. I just kinda hung out today. Sam and I made the last of our pasta and sauce. We invited Dan over to share our food but he decided to be a nerd. THEN we went to Giant to spend the rest of our money. We got a huge 3 liter of Sunpop grape soda for $1 and a bag of M&M's for 89 cents. Awsome. So I'm going to remember to get my change out of the car so i have all of my donations ready. Can't freakin wait to get a shower tomorrow, its going to take forever to wash my hair.

Day Three
Today wasn't so bad. I skipped tennis today because I had one abscence left and I didn't want to waste it. So I didn't have class until 1, which was Politics of Developing Countries. I made myself read the article online about Brazil then I took about a 2 hr. nap. This is secondary to the lack of sleep I got last night in the Shantytown. Even though only Hart, Sam, and I slept in the ST last night, I just couldn't fall asleep. The JRB had free hotdogs and hamburgers which were delicious. Then Sam and I were informed by a very pushy someone that we needed to be back by 6 b/c the reporter from the Free Lance Star would be at the ST for interviews. Guess what?! We stayed until 7 and he/she never came. We did have time for some pictures in which we were positioned around the shack. Good times. By then, we were ready for some dinner, so we went back to Sam's apt. We made some chocolate pudding (good protein and calcium) and sweet potatoes. They were so yummy. Whoever says they are starving on their ramen noodles is whack. Since then, we've been hanging around the ST w/ Dr. Humphrey. Life is pretty good.

Sam's Blog
Hey, it's Sam on Danielle's blogicito. Mine's broken.
So, apparently Abe thought it would be a good idea to make a few comments on my 2dolladollabillsyall blog - and they apparently triggered some Google police drama and my blog has been SHUT DOWN BECAUSE IT'S POTENTIALLY SPAM!!!!! I clicked the link to petition it, but it won't be back up for four business days, aka the end of the challenge.
But anyway, lets recap last night and today. It was a pretty good night, kinda chilly, but I think only because I was RIGHT near the opening and probably absorbing all the cold air. And the shantymansion is built on a kind of slant, so I kept sliding down and dr. H said I kicked him in the head like five times. My bad!!!
Danielle and I woke up around 0730, and promply sprinted down to Hyperion to beg for coffee. Who do we run into there?? Dean Rutgers!! yay! He went inside and convinced one of his friends to buy us both small drip coffees! It was great.
I madly pounded out a German paper, (Krieg mit Erich Maria Remarque: Waehrend und Nach - if anyone's interested), then met Danielle, Dan, Jess, and Dr. H to talk about our paper. Then Dan and Danielle and I decided that we were starving and should probably go spend our combined $17 dollars at Giant. We ran into fellow Team Honduras superstar Oliva on the way, chatted about South Park, then Dan convinced us to go to his house first and see if we could break into it b/c homeboy locked his keys inside. That mission was unsuccessful. On to Giant.
We got to Giant, got some cheap food - Danielle went over all the deets in her blog. THEN we had the brillz idea to go to Dunkin' Donuts and get the donuts that the store THROWS away at then end of the night!! Oh snap! So, we went to the DD next to the Taco Bell and the manager was super cool and gave us two dozen donuts!! Hollaaa!!! We stuffed our faces the second we were in the car and out of eyeshot of the DD peeps.
But one DD and 2 dozen donuts was not enough - oh no - so we hit up a SECOND shop on Rt. 3!! They weren't closed yet, but the manager said come back at 8:55 and he would give us their donuts. Danielle and I dropped off (literally) homeless Dan, proceeded to laugh at him as we drove away, then went and made noodles and sauce for dinner. --- Correction, Danielle made noodles and sauce. I supervised.
Anway, back to DD. We get there right at 8:55 and the manager gives us EVERY SINGLE DONUT THEY HAD!!! Even the ones with jelly!! What whaaaaat!
The donuts are deeeeelish and everyone is really happy with them! But now it's getting pretty frigid outside, it's probably going to blizzard, but we are sticking that shantymanor out!! It's going to be interesting.
So, unless Google super STATs the unlocking of my blog, I'll be back with D tomorrow.

Day 2
Last night wasn't so bad, it got a little chilly but everyone seemed to go to sleep around the same time. Apperantly Sam kicked Dr. Humphrey in the head several times...who knows. So, after we woke up, we cleaned up a little and went to Hyperion before class. We sat outside, looking all pitifull. Dean Rutgers passed us and asked if we were begging for coffee, we said yes, of course. He went inside and asked a very generous woman and her little girl if she would mind getting us a couple of cups. She brought them to us and we explained the $2 a day challenge. Wow, who knew. Then we had an old einstein's bagel from yesterday for breakfast. After econ, I went home since Geopolitics was cancelled today. I was so hungry that I just fell asleep to forget about it.
Sam and I went to Giant. With our remaining $17 we bought 2 sweet potatoes, a box of pasta, sauce, a HUGE box of frosted flakes, milk, and some chocolate pudding. The best part? We only spent $11. Then we went to Dunkin Doughnuts on route one. The super nice manager gave us 2 dozen doughnuts but told us that he couldn't give us any of the ones with filling b/c they are a liability. They close at 5pm for anyone interested. THEN we tried to break into dan's townhouse again b/c he left his keys inside. We left him and some doughnuts sitting on the curb until someone could let him in. What?! We weren't going to wait there. psssh.
By then it was dinner time, so we made some pasta with sauce while we waited for the OTHER Dunkin Doughnuts to close. The pasta was delicious btw. At 8:55, we went to the DD on route 3 next to the KFC. One of the guys who works there told us we could have whatever we wanted, the only stipulation being that we had to put it all in bags, cause they were running out of boxes. So he filled our bags with every kind of doughnut you can imagine, he even asked if we wanted the doughnut holes, which we declined (there is no way we will finish all of the ones we have now). Since then, we've been hanging out around the shantytown, hanging out with Abe. So far so good. Except we just heard there is a frost advisory tonight....however, Sam and I want to be able to claim we slept in the shantytown every night. snap.

First Day
So, I heard that the challenge didn't begin until 7am today. I woke up at 6 and took my last shower of the week. I'm going to miss them. I also didn't know we were allowed to use electricity during the day so i basicly just slept until i had to do some work before i left for tennis. Unfortunately I got my clothes all sweaty from tennis. Then, once class was over, I helped with the shanty. A few of us used a "found" shopping cart to procure some lonely cardboard behind Roses. THEN we waited around Einstein's until it closed today at 5, and they gave us a HUGE bag of bagels that they would just have thrown away. They were delicious, and I bet they will be tomorrow, too.
The finished shanty looks great! We put together a few of the boxes, lining them around the cardboard floor. We put the tarp on top, so it should keep the rain out. A girl commented on how she thought you would have to be 2 ft. tall to live in it, but I say...it will be warm.
It has come to my attention that Dr. Humphrey has some starbucks coffee in his office and that he may or may not share it. This remains to be seen, however: Sam and I are going to try to beg some at Hyperion tomorrow.
Also, I sold a banana to Patrick today for 80 cents. Abe also told me that he would give me $5 at the end of the week if i was still wearing my $2 a day shirt. Challenge accepted.
